Fall in Love with Color

While the dreary skies and cold weather can make one pull out blacks, grays, and navys, fall doesn’t have to be filled with only a dark palette. After a warm or sticky summer, putting away the bright colored clothing can break a heart. But alas color decided that it did not need a winter vacation…and it’s taking a permanent hanger spot in the closet. The Fall 2011 collections of designers such as Prabal Gurung, Gucci, and Akris showed beautiful jewel toned hues. Jewel Tones (such as emerald green, burnt orange, deep red, and mustard yellow pictured) are a great way to be colorful without the extra brightness of neon colors from summer.

Here are some great ways to add color to fall ensembles:

1. Accessories — If you are new or shy to color, starting off with one easy piece is a good way to go. Statement jewelry, hats, scarves, headbands, and purses can play up neutrals and darks adding a bit of pop to your outfit.

2. Coats —
Black, gray, navy, and khaki coats are classic and go with everything. Try a coat in a jeweled hue brighten up the coat wearing season.

3. The Lips, The Nails — I am a lover of lipstick and things that make my nails look sleek. Using color on these two parts of your body is a great way to add a dash of color without having to think too much about it. You can make your face and nails the focal point by adding color or mix up the colors to bring some happiness to the cold season. Color blocking for the lips anyone? Hmm, we’ll have to see about that one…
