The ride is over for four contestants vying for the American Idol title. Ashley Rodriguez, Joe Munoz, Janell Wheeler, and Tyler Grady were voted off during a special elimination episode Thursday, this after several auditions and enduring Hollywood Week. As previously reported, the week began Tuesday with performances from the top 12 women to make the original cut, followed by performances from the guys Wednesday. While each of the four were eliminated due to a lack of votes, there were at least two shocking events, including a “safe” for Tim Urban. Ashely Rodriguez, an early favorite, was likely the night’s most shocking elimination however. Before launching into a ‘pitchy’ rendition of “Happy” after receiving news that she had been eliminated, Rodriguez told fans “I want to say thank you to everyone who has supported me from day one”. In related news, Thursday’s episode saw the return of two former Idol stars, including last season’s winner Kris Allen. Performing “Let It Be,” while sharing footage from his recent trip to Haiti, Kris Allen shared the stage with fourth place star Allison Iraheta, who performed the single “Scars”. American Idol continues next Tuesday on Fox, with the Top 10 female semi-finalists performing, followed by the top 10 male semi-finalists Wednesday.
