Other artists that Songz would like to work with are Beyonce, Alicia Keys, Jessie J, and Tinie Tempah. Timing wasn’t on his side, though, when it came time to collab with Bey and Keys, who had both just given birth when the opportunity presented itself. “I actually held a lot of my listening sessions at her [Alicia’s] studio in New York…and we had a great record we wanted her on, too, but she had just had a baby,” he explains.
When it comes to newcomers in R&B, Songz respects Frank Ocean and the Weeknd for being successful at bringing something different. He vouches, “Anybody that’s taking a stand to be different and speak what they really feel deserves a shot.”
