No matter what season it may be, maintaining healthy skin can always be a struggle. From dry winds and high temperatures to snowy days and bitter gusts, your skin needs to be prepared for it all. Otherwise, it will greatly suffer the consequences. But you should not be alarmed. There are specific treatments and steps you can take to protect your skin, come rain or shine.

The cold temperatures and biting winds of winter can leave your skin looking and feeling dry and rough. And it is not just your face. Oftentimes, legs, hands, elbows, and feet feel the effects of winter. During this season, it is increasingly important to completely moisturize your skin, from top to bottom. For feet, hands, and elbows, it is better to use moisturizers such as petroleum jelly; these areas have thicker skin that ultimately requires a heavier lotion. Petroleum jelly works best when socks or gloves are worn immediately after it is applied; following this routine produces much softer skin.

For facial skin, try using a cleanser, toner, and moisturizer on a daily basis. But the products you choose should not be picked haphazardly or just because your friend uses them and has seen good results. Everyone’s skin type is different, so it is natural that different approaches and products must be used. You should first determine what type of skin you have (oily, dry, etc.) and make decisions based on that.

When warmer temperatures near, protection from the sun is essential. Sunscreen should be applied whenever you plan on being out in the sun. The amount of sun block necessary is completely dependent on your skin type. Those with fair skin should use more sunscreen than those with a darker complexion. To rid your skin of dry or dead skin, gently use an exfoliating cleanser on your face. Exfoliating can leave your face dry, thus, these cleansers should always be followed by a moisturizer to restore hydration to the skin.

Taking care of your skin is yet another aspect of making yourself an overall better person. It is essential and has the ability to give you a renewed confidence that can surely stand the test of whatever life may throw at you. —— By: Bethany N.
