R&B/Soul artist Tay Walker draws inspiration from Marvin Gaye’s “What’s Going On,” for a socially-infused single of the same name. On the record, the LA singer, songwriter, and producer delivers heartfelt and emotional vocals about his frustrations with the current state of our communities.
“Here we go again / When’s it gonna end?” he sings. “We got brothers in the grave / Brothers in the pen / Mother’s in the church praying for her son / While the baby’s in the streets playin’ with a gun.” Tay keeps hope alive on the second verse as he croons, “Keeping hope alive, tryna survive / The devil is a lie, ‘til the day I die.”
About the record, Tay says it “talks about the current status of our community” and “Wanting something more than what’s given to us.”
“What’s Going On” comes on the heels on the senseless killing of rapper, entrepreneur, and visionary Nipsey Hussle.
