With a week to go before Toni Braxton releases her latest studio album, Sex & Cigarettes, the R&B icon stirs up more anticipation by releasing the new single and title track, ‘Sex & Cigarettes.’ On the piano and strings-driven offering, Braxton gives her tale of being in a relationship where you can’t trust your other half because of there actions. As usual, her glowing and emotional delivery makes for an eargasmic listen.
You make me crazy, crazy / I swear you act like you hate me, hate me / How can you tell me “I love you” / Then do the things you do?” she sings. “At least try to lie to me, lie to me
/ Instead, you come straight to our bed / Smelling like sex and cigarettes.”
The 2018 ‘Sex & Cigarettes’ album marks Braxton’s 25th year in music and follows her 2014 offering, ‘Love, Marriage & Divorce’ with Babyface. Also featuring the singles ‘Deadwood’ and ‘Long As I Live,’ the project includes 8-songs and only one feature from pop powerhouse Colbie Caillat (‘My Heart’).
She also told Essense in a recent interview, “‘Sex & Cigarettes’ is more about me feeling sexy, independent, and expressing my feelings. I think for a long time I felt I had to make certain records, but now I want to just be free. I don’t want to be censored, I just want to focus on being an artist and creating good quality music that people can relate to.”
Braxton will support the project with a North American Tour, slated to take flight this spring (Dates and ticket info to be announced soon).
