Jessie J resurrects the pain of a failed relationship by sharing her tales of disdain on the soulful new single, “Not My Ex.” With a perfect measure of emotion, finely-calibrated vocals and lush melodies, the UK songstress blames herself as well as her Ex for their wasted time together.
“My Ex used to tell me I’m flawless / When laying low with all the girls,” she sings. “Believed him when he said he was honest / Then blame myself when I got hurt.”
She continued: “My Ex used to tell me I’m selfish / But never did he put me first / Ignore me and he do it on purpose / Just to have the last word.”
“Not My Ex,” which follows the previous release “Think About That,” will appear on Jessie’s upcoming fourth full-length album, R.O.S.E.(Realizations, Obsessions, Sex, and Empowerment), which will capture her struggles and journey back.
In addition, Jessie is gearing up to kick off her International tour, beginning October 8 at Birmingham Institute in Birmingham, UK with dates plotted through October 28 at Great American Music Hall in San Francisco, CA. Check out the full itinerary below.
