East London production collective The Heavytrackerz have nurtured rapper Lay Z’s soulful side for the smooth “Freak You.”
Sampling Usher’s “Nice N Slow,” the track allows Lay to step out of the box, away from his usual Grime tunes and emceeing and show off his vocal chops. Lay-Z’s surprisingly smooth and gripping vocal rides across the deep groove of the song.
The exploration of genres and sounds is something that The Heavytrackerz have mastered, elevating them to become one of the most sought after production crews that create the most ground breaking beats for the biggest names in the UK music scene. For Lay Z, it presents a new angle to his artistry:
“I love the vibe of old school R&B” he says, “working with The Heavytrackerz for over a year has meant we’ve been able to develop something special by mixing it with sounds of today. Singing has always been one of my passions as well as grime, I just want to show the world a different side of my music.”
