To the applause and chagrin of many, Spike Lee’s newest controversial film Chi-Raq is in theaters now. Along with the film comes the soundtrack; we’ve heard Jennifer Hudson’s contribution “I Run” as well as the Mali Music/Jhene Aiko collab “Contradiction.” Now R. Kelly and Tink’s collab/contribution “Put The Guns Down” has surfaced.
Surprisingly, the song isn’t as solemn as the other releases; rather it boasts an upbeat, dance-tempo that promotes good vibes in place of non-violence on behalf of both Chi-Town natives.
“Every hood every block, somebody’s dying over nothing,” Kellz sings. Tink chimes in on her rap verse, “And we just wanna party in peace / get the east to the west to the south side moving their feet.”
Chi-Raq is a satire and modern-day adaptation of the ancient Greek play Lysistrata by Aristophanes which tackles the high crime rate problem in Chicago.
