Last night (Nov. 29), The 2015 Soul Train Awards left viewers saying “Yaaas!” to the first ever “Soul Cypher,” a must-see gathering featuring Lalah Hathaway, K-Ci, Eddie Levert, and Chrisette Michele. They came together to create a vibe session inspired by rap freestyle battles.
In this behind the scenes clip, watch Chrisette prepares for her part of the cypher. She used the lyrics to her current single “Steady” and explained it took seven takes to get the money shot. “I think I sang the song well,” she said after the taping.
