If you like the vintage sounds of Janelle Monae, Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings and Amy Winehouse, then you have a new group to add to your musical collection: SugarBad is NYC’s newest funk/soul group of true musicians. With lead vocals by Lisa Ramey, the rest of the 6-member collection includes Aaron Rockers (Horns), Dave Mainella (Organ/Keys), Frank Cogliano (Guitar), Isaac Jaffe (Bass), and Nick Myers (Saxophone).
With beginnings as an instrumental house band at Broadway’s 169 Bar, Sugarbad’s sound is anchored by anthemic vocals and horns, a powerful rhythm section, funky guitar and organ based grooves…just listen to this funky ditty “Just Can’t Stop”; it’s from thier upcoming EP Up In The Clouds, set to release this winter.
The 6-piece collective has upcoming shows at Le Poisson Rouge in NYC on Aug 22 ($18) and Peekskill Brewery in Peekskill, NY on Aug. 31 (free).
