American Idol Picked Up For 14th Season Despite Ratings, Plus Audition Cities Announced

American Idol will continue. According to FOX, the series will not suffer the fate of "The X Factor USA," which was canceled earlier this year. Instead, the reality singing competition has been greenlit for a fourteenth season to air in 2015.

FOX broke the news Wednesday while lining up auditions that will kick off June 18 in Minneapolis, MN. Aspiring talent can also audition in Portland, Oregon; Columbus, Ohio; Kansas City, Mo; Albuquerque, NM; and Richmond, VA.

While it's not exactly surprising that Idol has been renewed, the series is attracting far less viewers in the 18-49 demo. According to THR, the series saw a 28 percent slide in the coveted demo this year and this season, featuring Jennifer Lopez, Harry Connick Jr and Keith Urban, has seen more record lows than previous seasons.

"American Idol" is still averaging around 12 million viewers an episode.

The fourteenth season of "American Idol" is expected to premiere January 2015.
