Independence Day has come and gone, but Jarell Perry recalls the mid-summer holiday as the day he lost a summer romance on “4th of July.” Perry recalls his short-lived euphoria on the hard-driving ballad: “Do you remember the fourth of July? / They set ourselves on fire/ Then you left with someone else,” he sings.

The singer-songwriter recently won an ASCAP Rhythm & Soul Award for his work on the Fat Joe & Chris Brown’s “Another Round,” and is prepping a video for “Getaway” from his latest album Simple Things.
