Get up! Feel Good! Clap or even tap your feet because this is a jam you can feel in your soul. It’s easy to see how this Seattle, WA native and San Diago raised singer/dancer has created such a robust and energetic sound. The percussion and horns are infectious along with her voice. This instrumentation is reminiscent of the 70’s when artists rocked out with full bands. It is authentic and organic for those that miss that full sound that played behind artists such as Barry White and Isaac Hayes.
Choklate’s career began at the age of 23 in Seattle at one of the most famous live music nights, Jumbalaya. She grew up on gospel, but was introduced to hip-hop with DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince’s “Parents Just Do not Understand”. She listened to everything from Bach and Yo Yo Ma to Brotha Lynch Hung.
This new joint ‘Wide Open’ is a testament to her universal respect for music. Check this out.
