R&B songstress Tamia is gearing up for a busy August with the release of her anticipated album “Beautiful Surprise.”
Confirming the fact that she will be performing during Tom Joyner’s annual “Family Reunion” in Orlando this August, the talented vocalist also discussed the state of R&B in a recent interview.
“It’s changed a lot from the business aspect, even as an artist and even how we approach from a record selling standing,” Tamia says of today versus when she began her career.
With “Beautiful Surprise” being her second independent release, Tamia says “when you own it, you can do what you want.”
“This is my second independent project, but it’s been amazing,” says Tamia.
Establishing distribution deals not just nationally, but internationally, with countries including South Africa, Tamia admits it’s been a worthwhile learning experience.
“It’s been a great process learning the business, being able to control your own destiny,” says Tamia.
In related news, Tamia says you won’t catch her on any reality show similar to Basketball Wives. According to Tamia, she’s asked more about “Basketball Wives,” as of late, than arguably Shaunie O’neal.
While she is not knocking the women for their decision to appear on the show, Tamia says it was a flat out “no” when producers approached her. Joking about Tom Joyner‘s suggestion that she would have to fight, Tamia said she would have to get in some “practice” first.
“I feel like I can, but I’m not sure. I’d have to have a couple practice rounds first,” Tamia joked about being able to fight.
Nonetheless, Tamia is excited about this new album and the upcoming Tom Joyner Family Reunion. She joins Eric Benet, the OMG Girlz, Diggy Simmons, Basketball Wives’ star Royce Reed and more on this year’s line up.
“Beautiful Surprise,” the album, is due August 28.
