Emily King is one of those low-key artists who have an underground legion of fans anxiously awaiting new music, and after nine months, she does just that with “Ordinary Heart.” The tune is about entering into a relationship while still acknowledging and letting her other half know that while she will try her best to make it work, she’s not perfect. Her smooth and soulful sound, mixed with relate-able lyrics provide a break away from mainstream sounds.
King signed with J Records in 2004, her debut album East Side Story released in 2007. Earning a Grammy nomination for “Best Contemporary R&B Album of the Year,” King toured with John Legend and Floetry that same year, and opened for various artists such as Alicia Keys, Chaka Khan and Erykah Badu. Now separated from the label, she works independently. Check out her debut, as well as her EP entitled Seven that was released on iTunes in July 2011 and includes bluesy grooves such as “No More Room,” and “Down.”
