The-Dream Defends Rihanna’s ‘Birthday Cake’ Remix

For days there has been widespread discussion about Rihanna’s “Birthday Cake” remix featuring Chris Brown. According to The Dream, speaking up for Rihanna in the wake of its release (Monday), the collaboration is all about forgiveness.

“I think [the topic] that should be more on the tongues is: how do we proclaim to be a nation of forgiving, and we go by all of these rules and everything, but we can’t actually do it?,” The Dream told Billboard. “It actually makes you look weaker than your adversary — if you don’t have the power to forgive, but you lie and say that you did.”

Rihanna reportedly asked to have Chris Brown on the track but, pulled the Dream aside to make it happen.

“It was Rih’s idea. Not only do we work together, but [Rihanna] is a friend of mine. And it’s like, ‘You wanna do something? Then cool, let’s do it,” said The Dream. “Because this is about her. If she can forgive, that’s where she is mentally. As a friend, it’s like, ‘Okay, cool. Let’s roll.”

It is no secret that Chris Brown has received a lot of criticism over the past two weeks from fellow entertainers, journalists and a WWE wrestler but, he had no problem summing up the collaboration, saying “You are not Gods to judge us.”

“You are not GODS to judge us,” Chris Brown wrote on Twitter. “U have no say! Positivity & LOVE! My fans make a difference!”

Rihanna also appears on a remix for Chris Brown’s “Turn Up The Music“.
