Singer/Songwriter Noel Gourdin has released his sophomore album ‘Fresh: The Definition,’ and Singersroom recently caught up with the R&B crooner to talk about the hit single “Beautiful” and the making of the album.
On the Single “Beautiful”⦠The new single is just a testament to people wanting something different. The respect of women has to be stepped up right now, so I think the record is very timely and it’s needed right now. There’s so much content out there on the radio wave that’s just degrading to women. That doesn’t do what we need it to do as a society right now, so I think “Beautiful” is needed right now.
Driving Force Behind The New Album⦠It’s more intimate with me; the content matter and really getting down in the studio with a really tight nit group this time. The music is a lot more organic this time; lot more live instrumentation; it’s the music that I grew up on, you know, my pops used to play the old soul music so it’s more in that lane. It was a lot more gratifying to make a record like this.
Label Changes and the Indie Route⦠Oh man, it’s so gratifying and it feels so great cause it’s what I wanted to do for years. The first time around, which I’m very grateful for, the first opportunity with my first label, Sony, but now to be able to really stretch my arm and express myself creative-wise, it just feels so much better.
Touring⦠I have a lot of spot dates coming up and I will be letting everybody know on Facebook and Twitter (@NoelGourdin) so just keep your eye on me. The record is rising on the Billboard chart and I have a tour coming up in June with J. Holiday and a whole bunch of spot dates with Anthony David and other artist; Kem, Eric Benet, I will be all over the place.
The Style⦠Typically when I go on stage, I wear like hard denims but if I’m home it’s the Adidas on the feet or some Steve Madden, a nice form-fitting shirt, jeans and the blazer; you gotta keep it grown up.
Message for Woman⦠Your not going to be degraded on this record, this is something you can listen to from two years old up to your grandmomma or great grandmomma. It’s just something that we need; concepts; music that leaves a lasting impression on your heart and soul.
Noel’s Pick for Next Diva⦠I wish my girl Jazmine [Sullivan] didn’t leave, her tone is out of this world. I gotta say Lalah [Hathaway] thought, that’s my girl. One of the sweetest souls and sweetest voices; she’s just a diva all over; rightfully earned.
