Singersroom’s Artist Watch is an opportunity for our staff to select artists that we will believe will make it to the next level. This Alumni Highlights shows the progress of artist that we placed our stamp on before they were on the radio or received awards or nominations.

Miguel
Since January 2010 recording artist, songwriter, and producer Miguel has very busy. After making his contribution to Usher’s ‘Raymond v. Raymond’ in 2010, Miguel released his debut single titled “All I Want Is You“, which features J. Cole and was produced by Salaam Remi. His debut album, All I Want Is You, was released on November 30, 2010 under Jive and Bystorm Entertainment. He described the album as “eclec-tric”, explaining that “[i]t’s in tone with keeping hip-hop as a base, because that’s what I grew up on, but including and infusing styles such as classic rock and funk.”

Throughout October 2010, Miguel will tour with singers Mary J. Blige and Jazmine Sullivan, as well as Usher and Trey Songz on the OMG Tour from November to December. Miguel’s second studio album, State of the Art, is scheduled to be released in 2011. He explained that “I’m always two albums ahead…I want to stay connected to my fans. I want to keep putting music out and not have too many big gaps between transitions.” With a voice and stage presence like Miguel there is no way this Artist Watch Alumni can loss.

Mike Posner

Mr. Posner release his debut album, 31 Minutes to Takeoff, on August 10, 2010. The first single from the album, “Cooler Than Me“, produced by Gigamesh, climbed the Billboard Hot 100 to reach No. 6 before going on to attain global success. He has been busy performing at Bonnaroo and the 2010 Warped Tour last summer. He is becoming a regular in households because of appearance on Live with Regis and Kelly, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. Mike Posner has continued working collaborated with artists like Kid Cudi, Wale, Big Sean, Bun B, One Be Lo, Eric Holljes, and 3OH!3. We are proud Posner is a part of The Artist Watch Alumni.

Darien

After blessing the stage at the 2010 Artist Watch in the Harlem, Darien has gone on to win the opportunity to open the Budweiser Superfest concert in Jones Beach, performing on the same stage as Anthony Hamilton, Kem, Raheem DeVaughn and Jaheim. In addition Darien also collected a trophy by capturing the first prize in the ‘2010 Black Planet Soul Beach Music Festival.’ He said “I’m excited and happy for the opportunity…we’re about honest and positive music and this will give us the funds needed to record the next album.”Darien is currently performing songs in the U.S. and internationally from his debut album ‘If These Walls Could Talk.’

Listen to Darien’s duet with Angela Johnson, entitled “All in Me,” featured on her new album ‘It’s Personal.’ Darien has been an ambassador of Soul and we wish him the best for 2011.

Kimberly Nichole

The fiery Seattle native Kimberly Nichole has amazed audiences with her extraordinary stage presence and unique fashion sense. When on the microphone she transforms into her alter ego The Puff-Haired Tower Of Power. Kimberly Nichole has also hosted Singersroom’s ‘Acoustic Conversation’ in December. Last year she was recognized in Vogue for that unapologetic power and grace on stage in Vogue’s ‘Star Is Born’ article. Artist Watch Alumni have more than a little style with Kimberly in the mix.

K. Michelle

The Memphis songstress, K. Michelle has been paying her dues but who says paying your dues doesn’t pay off? She was to capture the only feature on R. Kelly’s new album ‘Love Letter.’ K. Michelle delivers soulful vocals on R. Kelly’s I Just Can’t Do This. Talk about a co-sign? Her participation in this classic R&B “gumbo” is a testament of the staying power she has as an R&B artist.

Her voice is moving and her thought provoking lyrics are reminiscent of ‘What’s The 411’s’ Mary J. Blige. R. Kelly is executive producing her project and her determination there is no way she can be stopped. Singersroom is proud to have K. Michele as an Artist Watch Alumni.
