Singer/songwriter/producer Sean Garret is responsible for a ton of hits from several big name artists in music but now the new RocNation/Columbia signee is ready to put himself in the driverâs seat. “Iâm a performer firstâ¦fortunately producing and songwriting was something that took off really really big for me,” Garrett says in a recent interview at a BET Music Matters concert. “I just had my seventeenth number one record last year for Usher. Ironically, my first number one record was Usher.” Garrett, who remains grounded for being in his current position, praises all the artists he has worked with, including superstar Beyonce. “I wanna give a lot thanks and appreciation for every artist that Iâve had the opportunity to be a part of, theyâve been so instrumental in helping me in my life,” Garrett says. “I wanna personally thank my girl Beyonce. Beyonce was definitely the one that helped me get my new deal. She called Hov, she called Tyâ¦âlike yo I really love the song,â so I just wanna thank her man. Between her and Hov, Hov gave me the name: The Pen, and Beyonce really helped me out in my artist career.” Garrett, who says continuing to produce and write for other artists is a âgiven,â says his career is just getting started and his work ethic will win fans over. “A lot of people feel like Iâve done so many things but Iâm really just starting,” Garrett says. “Your career is a marathon, I look up to people like Lionel Richie, one of the great songwriters of all time and heâs still touring. Heâs like my mentor. Kanye West man, very influential artist. Iâm working on the artist perspective of my brand, itâs really important to complete your brand 360. Iâm gonna work my ass off to prove that Iâm one of the greatest hitmakers, singers, performers, etc.” Watch the interview HERE.
