Singer/rapper Wyclef Jean is at the center of a lawsuit which claims he ripped off a song from a â90s rap group. Blahzay Blahzay claims the Haitian MC approached them for permission to sample their 1996 song ‘Danger’ on his 2007 album ‘The Carnival’. The group alleges that they gave Clef permission to use the song for the track âWelcome To The Eastâ under the condition that they would appear on his album. According to court papers submitted, Jean allegedly never agreed to the terms but used the sample anyway. TMX reports that Wyclef then later sent the group a check, which the rappers claim they “promptly rejected and returned.â Blahzay Blahzay previously filed the suit last year (2009) but was said to have dropped the case after Wyclef expressed an interest in negotiating a settlement. They decided to resubmit the lawsuit after talks fell apart.
