When Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith’s 9-year-old daughter Willow Smith premiered her music video for “Whip My Hair” earlier this week, a viral commotion immediately followed. A catchy song, a self made style of fashion, which she describes as “schoolgirl-meets-punk rock,” are some of the pieces that are lifting this talented young lady to stardom. “I used to like dresses and tights but when I turned nine, my style changed,” Willow tells Teen Vogue. “My mom helps me pick out my clothes, but my brother [Jaden] always says: Willow, sag your pants!” As far as the video for “Whip My Hair,” the Roc Nation protégé says she had a lot of help from her friends on the set. “Having my Warriorettes there, my best friends caring — Jade, Angel Punky, they’re just all my best friends — and my family there just made it even better,” Willow told MTV News. “Me and my friends were touching the oranges, ’cause they were, like, real oranges but they were spray-painted,” she said. “It was gooey.” But with all seriousness, Willow says ” ‘Whip My Hair’ means don’t be afraid to be yourself,” adding, “and don’t let anybody tell you that that’s wrong. Because the best thing is you.”
