On Wednesday night, our friends at StarRoc and Roc Nation invited Singersroom to their Roc The Mic studios in N.Y.C to take it sounds from their new artist Range.
Range, who is an emerging singer/songwriter/producer, is no stranger to the game. Having written songs for Jamie Foxx (“Cover Girl”), Ludacris (“One More Drink”) and T-Pain (“Download”), range is poised for his shot as a performing artist, with the support from hit producer Stargate.
On to the sessionâ¦We heard six records off the EP “No Strings.” Songs that stood out were his current single “Ghetto Dance” featuring Rick Ross, “While The Gettin’s Good,” produced and co-written by Ryan Leslie and “She wants Me,” produced by Stargate and written by Ne-Yo.
“While The Gettin’s Good”⦠was definitely the crowd pleaser. The record boosts a heavy drum line and a simple but unique cord and synth structure. On working with Leslie, Range says “it was fun but its work.” He also says the song is about “where he is in life” and the “sacrifices” made.
“She Wants Me,”⦠written by Ne-Yo was definitely another ear grabber. With production somewhat similar to “Ghetto Dance,” the song boosts a sensual vibe. Range says it was great working with Ne-Yo because he is so “Humble.”
The conclusionâ¦Range, who says his influences are “everyone before meâ¦Jay-Zâ¦Stevie [Wonder]â¦Mariah Carey,” definitely has wiggle room to become a staple artist. He says he just have to continue to “trust his team, have faith and being focused.” Our advice to this young newcomer is to stay humble and be selfish with your musicâ¦own it!
