Earlier this month, Columbia Records released two new songs from season two of Empire, and now another has surfaced. “Born To Lose” is a sobering, mid-tempo song produced by Swizz Beatz that touches on troubled times, in and out of the show’s storyline.
Beatz’s protégé Sean Cross opens the tune saying, “I got my hands in the air, officer don’t shoot / Told him I couldn’t breathe, and he gave ne the boot.” Jussie Smollett (Jamal Lyon) adds his vocals to the chorus to asks some serious questions: “Do you live for the love, do you live for the hate, oh?” and Yazz (Hakeem Lyon) adds his socially aware verse: “No justice no peace, in these troubled times like these,” he says.
The second season of Empire premieres on Wednesday, Sept. 23 on FOX at 9 pm.
