Fox will proceed with plans to bring ‘Getting To Happy,’ a sequel to Waiting to Exhale, to theaters.
Based on Terry McMillan’s follow up to ‘Exhale,’ the movie is currently in pre-production and will move ahead according to Elizabeth Gabler of Fox 2000.
“It’s almost in her honour that we think to soldier on,” Gabler told the Vulture. “I don’t think she would want it to [stop] production.”
According to Gabler, Forest Whitaker, who directed the original film, had been in talks with Houston, updating her on the film’s progress.
“He’d been the one who was speaking with her, updating [Houston] on its progress,” said Gabler, after admitting they have not considered anyone, as of yet, to play Savannah, Houston’s character in the original.
Released in 1995, Waiting Exhale was a box office blockbuster, taking in over $81 million worldwide.
Houston will be seen in Sparkle, due in theaters August 17.
