Lil Wayne is closing in on an expected one year sentence due to weapons possession charges. Monday, the Grammy-winning rapper played what is being dubbed the first of several farewell shows in his hometown — New Orleans. Reportedly performing a number of his hits including “Lollipop,” sources say the rapper bid farewell to the city where his career began. As previously reported, Lil Wayne struck a plea deal in a Manhattan, New York courtroom that calls for a one year sentence, set to begin in February. While Wayne has not said much since the plea deal was revealed earlier this month, some fans believe the time in jail will do some good. “I hope Lil Wayne will follow in T.I.âs footsteps,” Jed Wright of Metairie, who brought his 11-year-old stepson to the show as a Christmas present told the Associated Press. “T.I. promised to turn his life around. Lil Wayne can do the same thing.” In related news, Lil Wayne is due to release his rock-tinged debut “Rebirth” early 2010.
