Interview
What made you decide that you wanted to become a singer?
Being born and raised in Broward County, Florida as a Haitian American, music has always been a prominent activity in my life. From singing in choir at church as a child, to attending performing art schools and colleges, I have always kept a path in music and taken a keen interest in singing. What prompted me to start creating my own music though, was when I moved to New York City in 2019 for college and was immersed into the indie artist community. I began my musical career with just performing covers but due to avid music listeners at local establishments supporting and encouraging me to start creating my own music, I decided my talents were best used being my own artist. Ever since then I’ve been fully committed to singing and songwriting, which has proven to truly be my happy place.
What goals do you have for the next year?
My main goal for next year is to release an album that truly represents my love for music. For my first ever single “Get Back” the idea was to showcase current times and how toxic “situationships” are at the forefront. I made a song that the mass could relate to and enjoy at popular settings that we all frequent, such as bars and clubs. But the kind of songs I would say I personally enjoy making are “lover girl” songs and music that makes you feel something profound. Therefore, for next year, I want to have more song catalogs that allow listeners to experience their most intimate feelings and understand the value of love through music like I have. The endgame is to keep progressing as an artist and accomplish great things with my music, like gaining loving supporters and winning a Grammy.
Who inspires you the most musically?
I’ve always been fond of many R&B artists in the 90’s & early 2000’s such as Brandy, Jazmine Sullivan, Keyshia Cole, Monica & so forth. Yet, the one artist that has inspired and struck a chord with me, not only for their powerful & captivating voice, but also for their authentic and triumphant life story, would definitely have to be Fantasia. I grew up watching “Life is Not a Fairytale: The Fantasia Barrino Story” and her life story always resonated with me. I could see myself in that small town girl with bigger dreams and a vision that no one else could see. Even with all the adversities life has to throw at someone, we both somehow managed to strive through it and fight to come out on top. That mindset alone is something to be admired and that’s why I hold Fantasia at such high regards. The music industry isn’t easy and being able to witness someone persevering, just like I am, is extremely comforting and motivates me to keep going no matter the circumstances.
If you could tell our audience one thing about yourself, what would it be?
The most important thing that I want everyone to know about me is that I’m a hustler. At every aspect of my life, I have turned nothing into something. Whether it be in my professional or personal capacity, I’m always grinding day in and day out, to make more of myself. I will step out of every comfort zone I have to chase my dreams and I believe that is a personality trait that’s forever embedded in me. Giving up isn’t an option for me and at every opportunity I plan to succeed. Optimism is my best friend because I’m always looking at the glass half full. No matter the situation, I always prevail.
