Gearing up for the release of her highly anticipated third album, Dirty Computer, multi-talented artist Janelle Monae celebrates women in the music video for her Grimes-assisted anthem “PYNK.”
In the powerful clip, directed Emma Westenberg, the singer-songwriter journeys to the desert with her girls before pulling up to the PYNK Rest-Inn. Throughout the visual, Monae rocks various fashionable outfits including pink ruffled pants which looks like the female vagina.
“Pink like the inside of your baby,” she sings. “Pink like the tongue that goes down / Pink like the paradise found.”
“PYNK is a brash celebration of creation. self love. sexuality. and pussy power!” explains Janelle. “PYNK is the color that unites us all, for pink is the color found in the deepest and darkest nooks and crannies of humans everywhere… PYNK is where the future is born….”
In an interview with Beats 1, Monáe spoke about her “extremely vulnerable” new album, which features contributions from Julia Michaels and Chuck Lightning. “I’m actually terrified. It’s such an honest body of work and I don’t know how people are going to react to it,” she told Zane Lowe. “I know that there are a lot of things that I haven’t discussed and I think this is the album that you’ll get an opportunity to get a closer glimpse into my mind and into my heart.”
The project will also feature the previously released singles “Make Me Feel” and “Django Jane.” Dirty Computer arrives everywhere April 27.
