The RIAA Celebrates The Weeknd’s “Starboy” Going 2X Platinum

It’s safe to say that Canadian R&B/Pop artist The Weeknd is killing ’em.

Recently, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) recognized the international superstar for the success of his latest album, Starboy, which is now certified 2X platinum. In addition, the “Starboy” single is 5X multi-Platinum, “I Feel It Coming” 2X multi-Platinum and “Party Monster” and “Reminder” are both Platinum.

‘Starboy’ is The Weeknd’s third studio album and was certified double Platinum back in June (2017). The project was released on November 25, 2016 and debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, selling 209,000 copies in its first week. It also debuted at number one on Billboard’s Canadian Albums Chart. The album features guest appearances from Daft Punk, Lana Del Rey, Future and Kendrick Lamar.

According to the organization, The Weeknd has notched 11 Platinum or multi-Platinum certified songs during the last five years. He is also the only artist to earn a 2X multi-Platinum album released in the last year that also includes four Platinum (or higher) songs.

Additionally, The Weeknd received recognition for more than 35 million RIAA Song Awards achieved in just five years. For a list of all of The Weeknd’s Gold & Platinum achievements, please see here.
