Soul/R&B singer Khalid continues to wow listeners, this time with the acoustic guitar backed “Perfect.”
Much like his previous releases, “Perfect” is thought-provoking and soulful, making for a compelling musical expression.
“I’ve been on my own for a long time,” he sings. “I’m feeling kind of lonely / Nothing’s fun when I’m the only one out here who knows me.”
He later sings, “I know I’ll never be perfect / I’m thinking out loud, but I know someone will hear me / Crying out for help.”
Speaking with UK’s Independent recently, Khalid says his emotions are not just within, he also taps into his friends.
“I try to tap into a lot of my friends’ emotions,” he says. “Some of my friends go through it and they ask for advice, and I can only talk so much. But once I put it into a song they can listen to – that’s my goal. Creating happiness. Because I’ve been upset, and I’ve turned to music to help me out. And it helped me even more when I started writing my own.”
Currently, Khalid has four songs on the Hot 100, including “Young Dumb & Broke” (No. 26), “Location” (No. 28), Marshmello’s “Silence” (No. 59), and Logic’s Alessia Cara-assisted “1-800-273-8255.” The latter is presently No. 3 overall, marking his highest entry yet.
