Phyllis “Phoenixx” Smith says “music is a part of my DNA,” and she’s making sure to stay the course despite any hate or trials.
On her new empowering single, “Ain’t Going Nowhere,” the Brooklyn, NY native fleshes out her soul by delivering raw lyrics and soothing melodies about never giving up.
“It gets hard, but I push myself on,” the indie R&B artist sings. “Gotta keep going…won’t stop.”
“I want my music to be a form of therapy, conceptual and relatable,” Phoenixx explained. “I want to put my listeners in a feeling, in a moment. I need it to mean something.”
“Ain’t Going Nowhere” is the first release from Phoenixx’s forthcoming debut album, Bamboo.
Phoenixx, who was mentored by R&B/Soul singer/songwriter, Edwin “Lil Eddie” Serrano, introduced herself as a songwriter over ten years ago. Her last Placement being for Legendary Songwriter Gordon Chambers (Anita Baker, Whitney Houston, Brownstone).
“I have a very weird and diverse background, like a big gumbo of sounds and elements and it influences the songs,” she says.
