Grammy nominated songwriter/producer team Louis York (a.k.a Claude Kelly and Chuck Harmony) are stepping out into the “Limelight” with their new single which will appear on their upcoming EP Masterpiece Theater – Act II which hits on November 18 on Louis York’s own label, Weirdo Workshop.
“Limelight is the song we’ve been dying to release. It’s all about our twisted addiction with social media, fame and the dark side of pop culture. Sonically, we wanted to keep the instrumentation of the production quirky and fun because of the seriousness of this concept. These days it feels like chasing the limelight has become more important than actually being known for something meaningful. We felt we had to address it the best way we know how – through music,” Chuck and Claude explain.
Kelly and Harmony met while working on a handful of songs for Chrisette Michele’s highly acclaimed 2009 album Epiphany. Since then, they’ve crossed paths and ultimately became best friends while working together on records by Jessie J, Faith Evans, Olly Murs, Ledisi and Fantasia. Individually, Kelly has co-written songs with or for the likes of Jennifer Lopez, Pitbull, Daughtry, Flo Rida, Whitney Houston, Adam Lambert, and One Direction, while Harmony has hooked up as a producer and/or writer with Ne-Yo, Toni Braxton, Jennifer Hudson, Kelly Rowland, Rihanna, Mary J. Blige, Janet Jackson, and Keri Hilson, among many others.
Individually and as a duo, Kelly and Harmony have penned big hits for a veritable who’s who of the Billboard charts, including Bruno Mars (“Grenade”), Miley Cyrus (“Party In The U.S.A.”), Kelly Clarkson (My Life Would Suck Without You”), Rihanna (“Russian Roulette”), Britney Spears (“Circus”) and Mary J. Blige (Growing Pains), to name but a few. Their songs have sold more than 25 million copies to date, blanketed radio airwaves around the world, garnered multiple Grammy and Billboard nominations and dominated international song charts.
Louis York have been featured on the cover of the Los Angeles Times Calendar section, garnered coverage on Billboard, Wired, MTV, etc., were hand-picked by UBER to play their SXSW event, appeared on VH1’s “Big Morning Buzz Live,” and performed at Will Smith’s launch party for the DC Comics film, “Suicide Squad.”
