[Concert Review] Brooklyn Shows Lots of Appreciation and Gratitude for Their Hometown Hero, Maxwell

Multi-platinum singer/songwriter Maxwell returned to his hometown Brooklyn, NY to deliver an outstanding live performance last Saturday at the Ford Amphitheater on Coney Island.

Severe thunderstorms were supposed to take place throughout the day, but fans were still waiting and anticipating to see the eye-candy crooner. Tons of fans traveled by train, bus, and car to see the one-night-only concert.

Rising superstar Ro James was the opening act; he stepped on stage to perform is single “Permission” (amid others) to an exciting round of ecstatic fans who sang along to one of the hottest singles of the summer. The song captures the late Prince’s rhythmic sound.

After James’ segment, there was a fifteen-minute intermission which gave Maxwell ample time to get ready and continue to make a lasting impression on his fans.

The Maxwell concert was a special treat especially for those who never seen him perform live in concert. It’s clear that after a seven-year hiatus, Maxwell came back stronger than ever. We took a trip down memory lane as he performed some of his biggest hits that spanned his career since 1996. Records such as “Lifetime,” “Get to Know Ya,” “Ascension (Don’t Ever Wonder,” “Bad Habits,” “Sumthin’ Sumthin’,” “Matrimony Maybe You,” and his signature hit, “Pretty Wings.” He also performed some new songs from his latest album  blackSUMMERS’night including “Lake By the Ocean,” his latest single that showcases his smooth, tender voice and reigns supreme on Adult AC radio.

Maxwell’s set took a different direction when he paid homage to the late music legend, Prince. He sang the Purple One’s classic “Nothing Compares 2 U” like he did at the 2016 BET Awards a few weeks ago, and the performance softened the audience’s heart. He then performed “Fortunate,” it was like an R&B revival.

Twenty years since his beginning, the Brooklynite was humbled by the love of his hometown fans. Maxwell was amazed at the audience’s feedback as they were singing his songs word-for-word. The audience yearned for more. “This is crazy, I can’t believe it!” Maxwell gushed. Brooklyn saw one of their very own deliver a groundbreaking performance that will leave fans smiling for a lifetime.

blackSUMMERS’night was released on July 1st and debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 chart.
