We haven’t seen many virtual reality music videos since The Weeknd’s Eminem-assisted remix for “The Hills” last year, but D∆WN (aka Dawn Richard) is bringing in back with the video for her single “Not Above That,” and it’s only right, being that Dawn is on a constant attempt to be innovative with her sound and image.
By pressing the arrow buttons, you’re the controller of this journey, which involves you flying through space! Straight ahead, see Dawn’s severed hologram head as it sings the song to you, press down and see fire jets underneath the spacecraft, and press left or right to witness mini hologram dancers, all the while popping in and out of a space vortex.
(Tip: It may be easier to view on a computer instead of phone. Also, choose a higher definition setting on the Youtube player, and watch the images pop even more!)
“Instead of just shooting people in 360, we wanted to make you feel present in another dimension,” Richard says. “Instead of a VR piece that’s just images, we want to add storytelling to that platform.”
