Michelle hasn’t had the best relationship with radio shows as of late. A few weeks ago, she bantered back and forth with “Breakfast Club” host Angela Yee, (which allegedly resulted in them puling her music from airplay), so now you may want to purchase all three of K. Michelle’s albums to hear her music, because you may not hear any on the radio any time soon…
Reports say that Radio One has banned all of her music from rotation on the airwaves after she failed to show up for appearances at several of the company’s events.
According to Jawn Murray’s AlwaysAList, Radio One owner Cathy Hughes issued a company-wide command to have her music removed from all affiliated radio station’s playlists. Radio One executives told the site that K. Michelle songs, old or new, as well as tunes from artists that feature her on collaboration confirmed the action, will not be played.
The site reports that the ban stems from Michelle not showing up to several appearances scheduled earlier this month in the DMV area, one being a breakfast for fifty K. Michelle fans. Hosted by Radio One’s WKYS 93.9 FM’s new morning show hosts Lil’ Mo and DJ QuickSilva, the show was supposed to be broadcast on air, but K. Michelle never showed up.
Michelle’s reps replied to the no-show to Radio One, explaining the 32-year-old singer wanted to stay at a Ritz Carlton Hotel in Washington, DC the night before the appearance, but the hotel was full, so K. Michelle had to stay in nearby Baltimore, Maryland. Her reps explained that rather than wake up earlier to make the hour-long commute to the radio station in Silver Spring, the singer decided to sleep in. Shortly after hearing the reason the singer wasn’t at the breakfast, a fan at the event allegedly revealed she was angry because she skipped her chemotherapy treatment to meet the singer that morning.
However, an Atlantic Records rep acknowledged to AlwaysAList that while there was “an issue in DC” the site’s story was “incorrect.” The spokesperson said that stations in Detroit, Richmond, VA; Raleigh, NC and Houston, Texas still have K. Michelle music in rotation.
If true, that IS jacked up! But one place she isn’t banned from is from the “Wendy Williams Show.” The singer appeared on yesterday’s (April 14th) episode and performed her single “Not A Little Bit.” Watch below:
