Elton John, 68, has always spoken his mind when it comes to other artist’s stage performances; putting on a good show is something he’s passionate about. In 2004, he got on Madonna’s case for lip-syncing at her live shows. Now, he has called out Janet Jackson for her stage performances.
During a recent interview with Rolling Stone, John mentions Jackson as an example of how NOT to do a live performance.
“You know, f–king music magazines writing a review of Janet Jackson saying, ‘This is the greatest show—four and a half stars.’ It’s f–king lip-synced! Hello! That’s not a show!” John says. “I’d rather go and see a drag queen. F–k off,” he told Rolling Stone.
I think Elton fails to remember Janet is also known for her impeccable dancing and intricate choreography as well, (which is challenging to do at the same time). Plus, from what I’ve seen, Janet sings along with backing tracks at her concerts. She’s currently on her Unbreakable World Tour, and neither she nor a rep has commented on John’s comments. Highly doubtful she will, she’ll just “lip sync” all the way to the bank!
In related news, R&B diva Mariah Carey attended John’s AIDS Foundation Oscar viewing party on Sunday night. See a few photos below.
