“Progressive Soul Queen” Maya Azucena is readying her EP Unleash Me, and today, she premieres her debut single, “Favorite Song.”
Produced by Sonix The Mad Scientist (Sean “P-Diddy” Combs, 50 Cent, DMC of Run-DMC, Maxi Priest, Mario Winans), the Brooklyn singer/songwriter says the song was born out of a bad break up and the frustrations that ensued after it ended. Ms. Azucena says, “When you listen to the song and hear me sing the word “creep,” I hope it can send a message to help empower other women who are suffering in a bad relationship.”
Unleash Me is a collaboration with super-producer Sonix and is an eclectic brand of Progressive Soul mingles effortlessly with a nostalgic mix of Rock Fusion, creating a unique mélange that could be considered the future of fusion.
Ms. Azucena was awarded a Grammy Certificate for her feature with Stephen Marley on his record, Mind Control, which won a Grammy for Best Reggae Album. In 2013, she performed at Essence Fest alongside Beyonce, Jill Scott, Maxwell and others.
