More info about TLC’s final album is coming out!
Last week, member Rozonda “Chilli” Thomas was the first to update on the album’s progress, saying a title is chosen, and sonically, it favors their 1995 hit album CrazySexyCool. Now, famed A&R exec and the LP’s executive producer, Ron Fair, is dishing more info on the highly-anticipated, fan-funded project.
In a recent interview on Renman Music & Business Live, Fair said he’s excited for the world to hear the new music, praising their vocals and calling it “old soul music.” He says, “It’s old soul music. It’s 90’s throwback music. It’s vintage TLC and I can tell you that their vocals sound EXACTLY the way they did the last time you heard them. Their artistic and vocal thing is 100% intact. So this is gonna become a question of what are they talking about, what are the lyrics, what are the beats they’ve chosen. And I’m very excited for the world to hear.”
When asked if the album would include any essence of fallen member Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes, Fair said that, out of respect for her legacy, it’s not in the plans. “You know this is, unfortunately, from a tragic point of view, there is no replacement for somebody like that. If they tried to put another person in her place it would be cheeseball. We’re not gonna pander to that. There’s NOTHING that can replace her. And the high road is really to persevere and to acknowledge that it’s a space that cannot be filled.”
Sounds like this will be a great album. What do you think, Roomies?
