Birmingham, England artist Ricardo Williams offers up an R&B/Trap version of the Donny Hathaway Christmas classic “This Christmas.”
Be honest, you probably got nervous when you saw the words “Donny Hathaway” and “trap” in the same vicinity, but surprisingly, Williams blends it nicely, updating the classic. Plus, his soulful vocals are great! Johnathan 'Ginger' Hamilton boasts production credits.
Many others seem to agree: Williams’ version of “This Christmas” has been played on BBC Introducing, BBC 1xtra, and has over 100k plays on Soundcloud.
You can find this on Williams’ upcoming R&B Christmas album The Gift (out on the December 14), which was completed in under a month. The LP pulls from his influences such as Dru Hill, Tank, Jodeci and Boyz II Men and features holiday favorites like “Jingle Bells" and "O Holy Night," along with original songs like “The Gift.”
