If you’re anything like us, you probably thought Mariah Carey already had a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. But after 25 years in the business and selling 200 million albums and earning 18 No. 1 singles, the diva has finally been granted her own star on the famous Hollywood Blvd.
During the ceremony today (August 5), fans gathered to witness the event as colleagues and friends of Mariah spoke of their admiration and love for the singer. L.A. Reid, directors Lee Daniels and Brett Ratner, and BET’s Stephen Hill all were in attendance to honor the multi-octave vocalist.
While wearing a black gown, her hair coiffed to perfection (like old school Hollywood), Mimi accepted the honor by saying to her fans, “I can’t thank you enough for being here with me, really. You’re melting my heart, you’re making me cry. It’s a huge honor. It’s a childhood dream come true. It’s been a long time coming, so they say, and I’m very, very, very honored and very humbled and just so thankful to be here.”
Her four-year-old twins Moroccan and Monroe were also there, stealing the show at one point.
L.A. praised Mimi for her down-to-earthiness: “You are the sweetest, kindest, most gentlest soul I have ever met in my life,” he said, and Daniels seconded that sentiment, adding, “Her heart transcends her stardom.”
