Elijah Blake turns on his G (game) and lets his dance moves out the box as he vies for the attention of a pretty young thang. In the music video for his Dej Loaf-assisted single, "I Just Wanna…," the newcomer goes on the prowl with his boys in an effort to lock his female interest down. In the end, looks like persistence and charm were the right formula, and Elijah "hit that sh*t somehow." Detroit rapper/singer Dej Loaf adds that boss flavor for the ladies!
"I felt DeJ was the perfect look because she got a fresh sound and vibe about her," Blake recently told The Fader. "And to be honest, I missed the era where multiple female rappers were killing it and were getting on hip-hop tracks and adding a woman’s perspective to a male record. She definitely went in! To the point where I was like, 'Wow, this chick is here to stay.'"
He also spoke about not abandoning dancing. "When I first got my deal.. The big question was should I dance or not dance," he said. "On one hand I didn’t want it to distract from the message in my music but on the other hand I had inspirational peers like Ciara, Kelly, & Ush who watched me mess around in the studio and encouraged me to not abandon my dance roots… I definitely didn’t wanna stray from what made me want to perform in the first place .. Especially since I attended performing arts school all my life. Now I’m just doing me and going back to my basics."
Blake recently revealed the cover and tracklist of his long-awaited debut album, Shadows & Diamonds, slated to arrive on June 23 via ARTium/Def Jam Records.
