Before Ne-Yo released his hit single, Miss Independent, in 2008, American Idol winner and Pop star Kelly Clarkson had already made waves with a record of the same name five years earlier. Simply put, Kelly has always been independent!
"The Stronger" hit-maker covers the latest edition of Redbook Magazine, and in the issue, she spoke openly about her marriage to husband Brandon Blackstock, who she wed in 2013, as well as how she was brought up poor.
"Brandon is not my other half. He's a whole and I'm a whole," the 32-year-old singer tells Redbook. "I've never believed in someone taking care of me, and that's probably because I grew up poor and without a lot of family stability."
Along with making her hubby a perfect whole, Kelly also makes it her duty to keep her marriage a priority. "I always swore ours would not be a relationship where we have to schedule sex," she says. "That is never going to happen. We put each other first. I call it the oxygen-mask mentality—take care of yourself first!"
