If you thought last week’s episode of Empire was good with Jussie Smollett and Estelle’s duet “Conquer,” this week’s (Mar. 11) episode will take into a tailspin with star power; both Mary J. Blige and Jennifer Hudson will guest star!
Blige plays a woman, who Lucious (Terrence Howard) knew from his past that temporarily returns into his life. In a flashback scene, they sing this duet, “Shake Down,” which originally appears on Blige’s 2007 album, Growing Pains, and features Usher as the male lead.
However, Howard has been known to be able to carry a tune himself (he put out an album Shine Through It in 2008), and he holds his own with Blige, providing gruff vocals.
This tune and “Conquer” will appear on the season one of the Empire soundtrack, which arrives tomorrow (March 10).
