In a standard procedure, doctors have removed Bobbi Kristina’s breathing tube. A close family source tells USA TODAY the removal procedure is done after a certain amount of time to prevent infections.
The tracheostomy procedure is also necessary to keep the lungs fluid-free and protect the vocal chords. Dr. Jordan Josephson, an ENT specialist at Lennox Hill Hospital, tells USA TODAY, "If the expectation is she's going to be on for weeks, months – who knows how long, the best way to deliver oxygen to the lungs is through the tracheostomy" (the hole left in the throat after the tracheotomy procedure is performed). Josephson says, "It's a protective measure. There may be a slight scar, but in most cases that's it. She absolutely will be able to speak."
According to the family source, Bobbi Kris’ condition remains unchanged, and the ventilator removal doesn’t signify any changes in decision to have her remain, or not remain, on life support. Dr. Josephson gave a little insight on his thoughts about the chances of her recovery. "I've seen cases where you think the patient should come out of it and they don't. And of course there are cases where you're telling the family the patient may never come out of it and two days later they wake up. Hopefully this is something that will be short for her and a speedy recovery is on the way."
In related news, BK’s boyfriend Nick Gordon issues another statement about his concern for her, and his longing to visit her in the hospital. His lawyer Randall Kessler issued a statement on Gordon’s behalf:
“Nick has been trying, privately; to do everything he can to see Bobbi Kristina cooperatively. He has respected the family’s wishes and for that reason alone has not returned to the hospital and risked a public confrontation. But he desperately wants to be with the one he loves and continues to hope that his request will be granted.”
Last week, Gordon issued his first public statement about his concern for his 21-year-old girlfriend.
It’s been previously reported that Gordon is under criminal investigation for BK’s mystrerious injuries on her face. But it’s also been reported that BK was involved in a car accident just days prior to being found unconscious in her bathtub on Jan 31.
Could she have sustained those injuries from the car accident? Do you think Nick should be able to visit Bobbi Kris?
