The year 2014 was rough for Mariah Carey! Her album, Me I Am Mariah: The Elusive Chanteuse, was one of, if not her worst selling releases. And not only that, her marriage to Nick Cannon fell apart, now with a pending divorce, and she seems to be struggling with her vocals at during performances. However, she has plans to rise again.
The music veteran has signed on for a residency at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, beginning this year (2015). Also, Mimi has reportedly reunited with L.A. Reid/Epic/Sony Records, where L.A. Reid has served as chairman since 2011.This places her back in conjunction with Sony, the first time since her 1999 album, Rainbow.
Billboard reports that Carey is finalizing a multi-album deal, “beginning with a greatest-hits set to coincide with her upcoming residency at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. Dubbed ‘#1’s,’ the concert series booked by Creative Artists Agency begins May 6 and will include all 18 of Carey’s Billboard Hot 100 chart-toppers, from 1990’s ‘Vision of Love’ to 2008’s ‘Touch My Body.'”
The reason Carey left Sony for Virgin/EMI almost 15 years ago is because she was trying to distance herself from ex-husband and Sony head honcho Tommy Mottola. When she signed on to Island Def Jam in 2003, Reid was the President, and it was then when she made her major successful comeback with The Emancipation of Mimi; could it be that Reid is Carey’s good luck charm?
On Epic, Carey would join Outkast, Ciara, Fifth Harmony, Meghan Trainor, Sade, Tinashe and TLC.
