Lifetime’s Whitney will premiere this Saturday, and we’ll see if the network can redeem themselves after the fan-disapproved Aaliyah: The Princess of R&B.

In preparation for the premiere, the network is rolling out snippets to boost anticipation. This clip features “America’s Next Top Model” runner up-turned actress YaYa DaCosta as Whitney singing her mega hit “I Will Always Love You” (vocals by Deborah Cox for the film). Judging from the clip, YaYa greatly embodies Whitney’s essence; her facial expressions and mannerisms are on point! (However, the quality of lip-syncing is up for debate).

And in a bonus video, director Angela Bassett explained her goals to portray the late singer’s humanity. “I put my faith in the actors and serve them. In this movie, you will see the “home Whitney,” the “glam Whitney.” I fight everyday to get it as right as we can. You want to honor their humanity. Whitney Houston was on the highest pedestal and she fell the furthest. She was an incredible artist and human being.”

Whitney will air this Saturday Jan. 17 8/7c PM on Lifetime.
