Many members of the “Lambily” have long blamed her manager Jermaine Dupri for Mariah Carey’s lackluster promotion and roll-out of her latest album, Me. I Am Mariah…The Elusive Chanteuse (which sold a disappointing 103,000 units to date from its May release). And now it’s confirmed that Dupri is no longer a part of Mimi’s management.
In a statement with Billboard, Jermaine states, “I’m a very hands-on person when it comes to my work,” said J.D. “I put my all into every project. But when I’m not allowed to do what I do, then I know it’s time for me to move on. Mariah and I enjoy working together and will continue to make great music together in the future.”
Looks like there's no bad blood between the two though. So, who’ll take over the reins? Billboard is reporting that former Island Def Jam president Kevin Liles, who manages Trey Songz and Ty Dolla $ign, may take the job. Liles is also Carey’s business partner in conjunction with her beverage “Butterfly”.
Jermaine is behind two of Carey’s biggest hits “Always Be My Baby” and “We Belong Together,” and after Me. I Am Mariah, maybe it’s best they keep their business relationship focused on just the music.
