As the best-selling female artist of all time, Mariah Carey had the honor of kicking off the Word Music Awards, which premiered on a UK network yesterday (Aug. 3).
Filmed in Monte Carlo back in May, Carey performed “Meteorite,” a track from her latest album Me. I Am Mariah…The Elusive Chanteuse. Surrounded by male dancers and skaters, Mimi carried her diva image as she stood in the middle of the performers wearing a tight black dress.
While the song is festive, Carey however seems not to be giving her best energy. First off, fans who are upset that Carey lip-synced with the record. Also, NBC was supposed to air the event for US broadcast, but was canceled due to the WMA organization failing to send the final cut of the taping the following day at 8 p.m; Carey was 4 hours late to the taping, ultimately delaying the entire production. No word as to why the singer was tardy, but could the reason be why her performance was lip-synced?
Anyhoo, check it out and sound off on your thoughts below…
