The Essence Music Festival kicks off its 20th anniversary celebration tonight (July 3) at the Superdome in New Orleans and will wrap late Sunday.

First day performers include R&B hitters K. Michelle, Trey Songz, Jazmine Sullivan, Jesse Boykins III, and rapper Nas, whom will all be featured on the main stage.

As previously reported, Prince will headline this year's festival, which will also feature empowerment sessions with Rev. Al Sharpton, Steve Harvey and Iyanla Vanzant.

Other weekend performers include Lionel Richie, Mary J. Blige, Janelle Monae, SWV, Jill Scott, Ledisi, Tank, 112, Marsha Ambrosius, Charlie Wilson, August Alsina, and many more.
