Get ready to hear new Prince music REALLY soon!
Back in April, it was announced the music icon would be releasing a 30th anniversary edition of Purple Rain soundtrack and new original music.
According to Rolling Stone, Prince Rogers Nelson is readying two projects; one his fans know about, Plectrum Electrum recorded with his band 3rd Eye Girl, and another yet-to-be titled solo project which he wants to be released sooner than later.
About this mystery opus, he tells the Stone, "I've finally got something that is a cohesive statement," as opposed to releasing single after single. A notable song from this album-in-question is called "This Could Be Us" which the star said is based off of a popular meme of him and Purple Rain co-star Apollonia Kotero on a motorcycle with the caption “this could be us, but you playin.” According to his hometown publication The Minneapolis Star Tribune, the song is "joyful" and features "ecstatic Prince vocalizing."
On another song, British pop star Rita Ora joins Prince for an "aggressive and menacing" rap song which he wants to put out soon. "We should be able to make music and put it out now," he told the publication, but he hates that the industry takes so long to release music. "Every No. 1 song, every Top 10 song, every song in the Top 40 is at least six months old," Prince told Star Tribune.
So just bare with the record companies, Prince fans…new music is on it's way, in due time.
In other Prince news, the icon will decsend upon New Orleans during 4th of July weekend to headline the Essence Music festival.
